2. Can the receiver act on it, or only absorb it?
Useful Candor: "We have nine months of runway, and here is our strategic plan to extend it." (The team can metabolize and act on this).
Emotional Outsourcing: "I’m terrified, and I don’t know if we’re going to make it." (The team can do nothing with this but panic).
3. Does this moment need my steadiness or my humanity more?
While most day-to-day moments benefit from open humanity, high-stakes crises (like layoffs, down rounds, or losing a major client) demand your steadiness first. Your team needs a psychological anchor before they can process anything else.
