Can I ask for reimbursement for flights if a job was initially offered to me remotely but is now requiring me to come once a month?

Still in the job negotiation process. They first agreed to 100% remote but are now asking to come to the office once a month.

That’d be fine with me if flights weren’t $500 each.

That’s $6,000 a year I’d spend on flights, plus the cost of any hotels.

Since I haven’t signed any contracts or employment agreements, can I ask them to reimburse me as a condition of my employment?

Sarah:

Most big companies would consider this a business expense and would pay it without asking. Did they say that you would be responsible for it? If not, then I wouldn’t assume you are. You could just ask clarifying questions about how the booking and expensing of those flights would work.
