Tech giants announce formation of AI safety initiative

Dozens of major tech firms, including Nvidia, SpaceX, and Palantir, on Monday announced a new safety initiative for open artificial intelligence models. The launch of the Open Secure AI Alliance comes after several OpenAI models went rogue and hacked AI startup Hugging Face. The incident demonstrated that "cyber defenders need open, frontier agentic systems for self-defense," Nvidia said in a statement. Hugging Face wasn't able to use U.S. models to defend itself during the breach, turning instead to a Chinese model — a source of ongoing consternation to American lawmakers.
