The Founder of Monster.com Is Back With a Platform Aiming to Fix Today’s ‘Completely Broken’ AI Hiring SystemThe platform flags soft skills jobseekers possess through their personal hobbies and career aspirations—not just their resume.

Thirty-two years ago, Jeff Taylor changed the world by creating Monster.com, bringing the job hunt into the digital age. But today, he’s the first to admit that the "monster" he helped create might be eating itself.

Between automated keyword filters and endless digital applications, the hiring process has become a frustrating black hole for both sides. Now, Taylor is back with a new venture called Boomband, and he's calling it the antidote to the current AI-driven recruitment meltdown.

The Problem: When AI Makes Humans Invisible

We’ve all been there. Jobseekers feel like they’re shouting into a void, worried that a missing keyword on page two of their resume is costing them a career. Meanwhile, recruiters are drowning in a sea of identical-looking candidates, unable to distinguish true talent from a well-optimized PDF.

Taylor didn't mince words when speaking to the Boston Business Journal:

“I think the current systems are literally melting down... more people run towards a system that’s completely broken.”

The Solution: Turning the Resume "Inside Out"

Taylor’s new platform, Boomband, aims to move past the traditional resume. Instead, it uses AI to build "dossiers" that focus on what actually matters: soft skills and real-world attributes.

Instead of just looking for "Project Management" in a job history, Boomband’s AI digs deeper into a candidate’s full profile—including hobbies and personal achievements:

  • The Marathon Runner: Flagged for discipline and goal-setting.

  • The Home Cook: Recognized for planning, timing, and execution.

By translating life experiences into professional strengths, the platform seeks to match people with roles based on the actual character traits required for success, rather than just the buzzwords they managed to include.

Why Launch Now?

Launching a talent site in an era of mass layoffs and economic shifts might seem risky, but Taylor argues it’s actually the perfect time. As companies become more selective and candidates become more desperate, the need for a system that actually "sees" the person behind the application has never been higher.

The Boomband Rollout:

  • Funding: Launched with $4 million in seed funding led by Boston Seed.

  • Initial Data: Already has dossiers for 5 million employees in the New England area.

  • Official Launch: Scheduled for late March or early April.

Want to Get "Backstage"?

Boomband is currently in a limited-access phase. If you’re a recruiter or a jobseeker tired of the "keyword wars," you can apply for a "back stage pass" on their website for a chance at early access.

Is this the end of the "broken" job board era? Only time will tell, but if anyone knows how to disrupt the hiring space, it’s the man who built it in the first place.

What do you think—are hobbies the secret to finding the perfect job match, or are you skeptical of more AI in hiring?
