Woman's Mother-in-Law Pushes Her to Be a 'Trad Wife' While Her Husband Refuses to Get a Job A woman whose husband is in law school and not working says his mother-in-law supports them — and he doesn't seem to mind

A woman who says she's been pushing her husband to go to work while he's in law school isn't receiving any support from her mother-in-law, who is okay with her son not working while also encouraging the woman to be a "trad wife."

In a post shared to Reddit, the anonymous woman writes, "I’ve been pushing my husband to go to work and provide if he doesn’t want to help me in the house and [with] his kid but my MIL tells me not to do that because her son doesn’t need that weight on his shoulders because she wants [him] to 100% focus on law school."

"She wants to continue providing for us but I’m having a hard time being in her home because of all her judgement towards me as a mother and the unsolicited boomer advice for the health of my kid," she adds in the post, which is titled, "My MIL pushes trad wife and mom roles on me but doesn’t want her son to provide and be a trad husband and dad."

The woman writes that she and her husband had earlier agreed that he would work while attending school, but his mom wants him to stay out of the workforce so he can finish school faster.

"My husband is so comfortable with his mom 100% providing for the family he has made," she writes in the post. "Just going about every day watching movies, playing games, and just waiting for me to tell him what to do, even with what the baby needs!!!"

The woman ends her post by writing that she is mad her husband has "no initiative and is not proactive."

Other Reddit users are weighing in on the situation in the comments, with some sharing similar experiences.

Wrote one commenter: "I remember years ago my cousin married a man like this. She would take the baby to daycare, go to work, pick up the baby, take care of the baby, cook.. all while he stayed in bed because he was [spoiled] rotten by his well off parents and far too intelligent to work or do anything else for himself and his own family. The marriage lasted a year before she left and took the little man with her. Good riddance!"
