While the gender pay gap continues to be an issue across the United States, in many cases, women are the main breadwinners, taking home bigger pay packets than men.
According to data from the US Census American Community Survey (ACS), female workers earn more than their male counterparts in 40 US cities.
GOBankingRates studied the ACS figures and compared female workers’ median earnings as a percentage of male median earnings.
Here, it’s important to differentiate between median salary and average salary. The median refers to the midway point in the full range of figures from the lowest salary to the highest. The average wage, meanwhile, is calculated by adding up all of the wage values and then dividing that figure by the number of workers.
