Professional growth is no longer about climbing the ladder

When meeting new clients, executive and career coach Sophie Johnson often finds them feeling stuck and burdened by choices or the lack thereof.

While clients seek professional growth, this term now has a more abstract definition, such as autonomy, passion, and a sense of purpose. Financial gain is not the only driver, as clients seek fulfilling work that makes a difference.

Physical and emotional burnout are issues that trouble workers and the idea of work-life balance is now a major consideration.
However, it is important not to invest too much of one's identity in their job, as diversification is smart. Taking a work-life "temperature check" once a year can be helpful, and clients should aim to identify their natural skills or "superpowers" to find fulfilling work.
