TECH JOB GROWTH REMAINS FLAT IN MAY DESPITE STRONG DEMAND

The number of IT jobs in the US remained flat in May compared to April, but demand for tech talent remains strong, according to the TechServe Alliance, a national trade association of the IT and engineering staffing and solutions industry. The number of IT jobs in the US edged up slightly by 0.04%, or 2,400 jobs, in May compared to April; year over year, the number of jobs was up 0.64%, or 34,500 jobs.

IT jobs totaled approximately 5.4 million in May.

“Demand for tech talent continues to remain strong as shown by the record low unemployment rate for technology professionals,” said TechServe Alliance CEO Mark Roberts. “In this tight labor market, hiring managers will have to be mindful of the expectations and demands of the tech workforce as we navigate through the complexities of work-from-anywhere culture in order to hire and retain employees, especially in the specialized tech roles.”

Separately, the report found the number of engineering jobs edged up by 0.24% in May from April to a total of 2.7 million. Engineering jobs were up 3.96% year over year in May, an increase of 102,900 engineering workers.
