JOB POSTINGS DOWN 21% SO FAR THIS YEAR, UNEMPLOYED JOB SEEKERS MORE LIKELY TO LOOK FOR WORK IN FIELDS PREVIOUSLY ENGAGED: INDEED

Indeed reported Friday that job postings on its site were 20.8% lower this year through Aug. 21 than the same period last year. The job board operator also cited separate research it conducted that found people who were unemployed because of the Covid-19 pandemic are more likely to be searching for a similar job to what they had before the pandemic instead of seeking a career change.

In previous surveys, Indeed noted the share of job seekers looking for employment in their current field was about the same as those searching for employment in a new field. That’s still the same for employed workers seeking new jobs at this time; however, the company found unemployed job seekers are more focused on finding jobs in the field in which they previously worked.

The survey included 10,604 Indeed users and took place from July 23 through Aug. 2.
