Finding the right employer after military service can feel like navigating uncharted territory. You've spent years building skills in leadership, resilience, and teamwork—but translating that experience into civilian career success isn't always straightforward.
Forbes just released its annual list of America's Best Employers for Veterans, and the results highlight companies that truly understand what veterans bring to the table. Here's what you need to know.
How the List Was Built
Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to survey more than 25,000 veterans working at companies with 1,000+ U.S. employees. Respondents rated their employers on factors like health benefits, career development opportunities, and veteran-specific programs. They also evaluated other companies they knew through industry connections or friends and family.
The result? A ranking of 150 organizations that go above and beyond for military-connected employees.
The Top 5 Employers for Veterans in 2026

2. **Delta Air Lines** – Moved up from No. 4 last year
3. **Microsoft** – Climbed from No. 5 to No. 3

What Makes These Employers Stand Out
The best companies recognize that veterans are a unique and valuable cohort—and they back that recognition with real support.
At Fidelity (No. 8), the employee-led Fidelity Military & Allies Community (FMAC) helps veterans and their spouses build active networks. The company also offers programs to help veteran associates navigate the Veterans Benefits Administration, plus mental health benefits and events addressing PTSD.
At Ukpeaġvik Iñupiat Corporation (No. 6), veterans make up roughly 20% of the workforce. Many stay with the company for more than five years, drawn by a culture that emphasizes professional growth, cooperation, respect, and a sense of purpose.
The Challenge: Getting Your Foot in the Door
Landing an interview at these top companies isn't always easy. Benjamin Krause, a veteran and attorney who advocates for veterans navigating the VA, notes that many service members struggle to translate their military skills into civilian terms on a resume—and AI screening tools often filter them out before a human ever sees their application.
Many veterans also find they need additional civilian training to demonstrate they have what employers are looking for.
The good news? The best employers actively work to bridge that gap through:
- Employee resource groups (ERGs) for veterans
- Partnerships with local organizations like Beyond the Yellow Ribbon
- Relationships with national nonprofits like Hire Heroes USA that provide training, career coaching, and community
Veterans bring leadership, resilience, and dedication to every organization they join. The companies on this list understand that—and they've built programs, cultures, and benefits that help military-connected employees thrive.
If you're transitioning from service or looking for a workplace that truly values your experience, these employers are worth exploring.
