AI is killing 10,000-plus jobs per month and 9% of jobs are at risk, analysts say

Artificial intelligence is increasingly reshaping the U.S. labor market, contributing to the loss of more than 10,000 jobs per month, according to economists Samuel Tombs and Oliver Allen of Pantheon Macroeconomics.

Their analysis suggests that AI-driven job displacement is already affecting several white-collar industries, including accounting, advertising, administrative support, and legal services.

While the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure has boosted construction employment as technology companies race to build new data centers, those gains have not fully offset declining employment in AI-exposed occupations.

Goldman Sachs economist Joseph Briggs has identified a similar trend, warning that AI is beginning to weigh on hiring even as public concerns about widespread job losses have eased.

Under Goldman Sachs' baseline scenario, AI could increase productivity by approximately 15%, but that transformation could also temporarily displace around 9% of workers as businesses adapt to new technologies.

The broader implication is clear: AI's economic impact is no longer limited to future projections. Its effects are beginning to emerge in employment data, raising important questions about workforce displacement, job creation, and the speed at which workers can transition into new roles.
