Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer just a buzzword – it’s becoming a powerful tool in workplaces across various sectors. According to recent Gallup data, AI adoption is accelerating, with notable differences in usage by industry. The results show that while AI is transforming how work is done, its adoption is not uniform across all sectors.

The Numbers Behind AI Adoption

In Q3 of 2025, 45% of U.S. workers reported using AI at least a few times a year, marking a significant rise from just 24% in 2024. Weekly usage is up as well, from 12% last year to 23% in the third quarter of 2025. Despite this growth, daily AI usage remains relatively low, with just 10% of workers using AI on a daily basis.

These numbers indicate that AI is becoming an increasingly important part of the workday for many professionals. However, the rate of adoption varies significantly across industries.

Industry Breakdown: Who’s Using AI the Most?

Gallup's survey highlights that employees in certain fields are adopting AI at much higher rates than others. Technology professionals are leading the charge, with 50% of them using AI at least a few times a week – a substantial increase from just 20% in Q2 of 2023. Similarly, finance professionals have seen their AI usage rise from 10% to 33% in the same period. K-12 education workers are also catching up, with usage climbing from 10% to 25% in just over two years.

In contrast, sectors like healthcare, manufacturing, and retail have been slower to adopt AI. As of Q3 2025, less than a quarter of employees in these industries are using AI on a weekly basis, with healthcare at 21%, manufacturing at 18%, and retail at 18%.

These figures suggest that the adoption of AI is more prevalent in industries where digital tools and knowledge work are already deeply integrated. For example, those in tech and finance have more opportunities to leverage AI in their daily tasks, whether for data analysis, customer service, or financial forecasting. On the other hand, industries with more hands-on, human-centered work are lagging behind in adopting AI solutions.

One consistent trend across all industries is that the higher up you are in a company, the more likely you are to use AI. Senior professionals and those in leadership roles are often early adopters of new technologies, leveraging AI to improve efficiency, decision-making, and innovation within their teams.

When it comes to the type of AI being used, chatbots are the most common. Over 60% of workers who have adopted AI report using chatbots regularly. This aligns with the growing popularity of generative AI tools like ChatGPT, which are transforming customer service, content creation, and even internal communications in businesses of all sizes.

The rapid rise of AI in the workplace is changing the way people work, especially in industries where knowledge work is key.
