Do i have work place trauma?
Do i have workplace trauma or?
What’s the word for when every morning i sit down at my desk and start sweating and panicking and breathing funny because i think there’s going to be some awful e-mail waiting for me literally every single morning and every morning it’s literally Inbox 0
But seriously. I quit a toxic job i was at for 8 years april 2023 and started the job I’m at now January 2024. Everyday i think I’m going to get in trouble for something or not doing enough or my job correctly no matter how much praise I’ve received. I even got a raise 9 months into my career here.
When does this feeling stop? I’m so happy to be here and so grateful but i can’t stop thinking I’m on the edge of being fired or that all my co workers are conspiring to get rid of me.

It's important to understand that you're not alone in feeling this way. Many people who have experienced a toxic work environment, even after leaving, carry the emotional scars. These feelings can manifest in various ways, including anxiety, stress, and even physical symptoms like sweating and difficulty breathing.
While it's not possible to definitively diagnose workplace trauma without a professional evaluation, your symptoms align with what many people experience after leaving a toxic work environment. The constant fear of negative feedback, the feeling of being watched, and the belief that your colleagues are out to get you are all common signs of workplace trauma.
Here are some things you can do to help yourself:
- Seek professional help: A therapist can help you process your experiences, develop coping mechanisms, and work through your anxiety.
- Practice self-care: Engage in activities that you enjoy, get enough sleep, and eat healthy foods.
- Build a support system: Talk to friends, family, or a support group about your experiences.
- Set boundaries: Limit your exposure to work-related stress by setting boundaries between work and personal time.
- Challenge negative thoughts: When you have negative thoughts about your job, challenge them with positive affirmations.
Remember, healing takes time. Be patient with yourself and don't hesitate to seek help if you need it.
