The easiest way to make money is by selling advice on how to make money doing something.
For example, Medium is full of articles about how to earn money from writing and loaded with selected anecdotes about what they did, glossing over the hard work, rejection, and self-doubt that comes with finding your place. We see only the end result or at least the version we’re supposed to see because success sells.
Or is it the perception of success that sells?
Pick an industry, and there is undoubtedly someone selling advice on how to become wealthy in that same industry. Real Estate. Door-To-Door sales. Multi-Level Marketing. Buying at auctions and re-selling on eBay. The list is endless.
A bombastic approach that oozes confidence and paints a picture of a wealthy lifestyle is all it takes. Big voice, big stage, a big inspiration, and big ideas.
My view is that if writing (or anything else) were that profitable, we would spend more time doing that instead of talking about how to make money doing it. Put your money where your mouth (or keyboard, as it were) is.
Are we so selfless that we willingly give up a competitive advantage in a saturated marketplace and risk obscurity in a crowd of mediocrity?
If those who are so good at making money actually doing what they speak of with the same dedication they have for writing and speaking about making money doing it, they should be so rich they needn’t resort to selling advice.
Be so busy making money “doing” that you don’t have the time to “talk about doing”.
Is selling advice a side hustle or a primary income? From what I have read, it is the latter and not the former.
The easiest way to make money by doing anything is to sell advice about how to profit from doing it.
Stay safe out there.
