UPS to hire 50,000 seasonal workers at annual hiring blitz on Friday


United Parcel Service Inc. UPS, -2.26% said Tuesday it is planning to hire 50,000 seasonal workers this Friday at its annual "UPS Brown Friday" hiring blitz. The one-day events are part of the transportation and shipping company's plan to hire up to 100,000 workers for the annual holiday season. Much of this year's effort will be conducted virtually, with applicants checking into a virtual lobby for interviews. The jobs going are for package handlers, drivers, and driver-helpers. Shares rose 1.4% premarket and have gained 44% in the year to date, while the S&P 500 SPX, -1.85% has gained 5%.
